| The European Union is growing more and more citizens will have to communicate about common matters, and their mutual understanding will be a main condition to create a democratic structure that allows participation in political matters, but also, maybe first of all, to foster a common cultural identity. The fears of loss, of marginalisation, of cultural imperialism and of increasing omologazione (the distruction of cultural diversity, as Pasolini calls it) bothers intellectuals all over the continent.
