L4 - VIDEO JOURNALIST

A private institution in Berlin offers the first diploma for video journalists following an American trend that might become mainstream in TV–production soon

   | Alex Timm. “TV as we know it will die out within the next five years”, says Michael Rosenblum, TV-journalist from New York City and forefather of the digital video-journalism. And he is certainly right. In fact it seems that the tremendous development in technology already broke the monopole of elaborate TV–producing by now and opened the world behind the screen to every single one of us. While hardly anyone could and still can pay for a real beta cam, the vast variety of digital video cameras combined with the latest computer technology offers the same or even better picture quality at affordable prices. L4, a private institute in Berlin now offers the first vocational “Video Journalism” class nationwide (accredited by the Berlin Senate and therefore part of the governmental grant and support system).
In cooperation with the local TV station HR (TV Hessia) the school enables its students to become the one man press agency of the future. And this is no joke, the video journalist combines almost every section of TV production one pair of hands — you will be the editor, the journalist in the field, the cameraman, the cutter and the promoter all in one single person. And as multiple as the contents of the studies, the possibilities on the job market will be, Lukas Pajonczek from L4 tells us. Join the future now and apply until February 7th 2005 for the first video journalist class ever. In the middle of March there will be a creative competition, which offers a grant of approximately 15.000 Euro to the top three applicants, this might be a great help to afford the 650 Euro the class costs each month.
